RECORDING EFFORT: Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, Georgia Unit, would like to thank the community for its support of Record-a-Thon 2009. Almost 250 volunteers contributed 385 hours to record educational materials that will be used by print-disabled students in Georgia and the United States. Special thanks go to the dozens of local businesses who donated sponsorships, door prizes and refreshments. Lions Clubs throughout Georgia (including the Athens Lions Club and the Classic City Lions Club) donated more than $14,000. Our guest readers included Heidi Davison, Vince and Barbara Dooley, Doc Eldridge, Louise McBee, Loran Smith, a contingent of Delta Gamma sorority members, Hairy Dawg and our Honorary Chairperson Gail Langer Karwoski. HORSE FAIR THANKS: Callaway Plantation was overrun April 25 with more than 500 horse enthusiasts and 50 horses from the Classic South regions of Georgia and South Carolina at the 2nd Annual Horse Fair.
The CSEA and the Horse Fair Committee would like to thank those people who made the 2nd annual Horse Fair possible. A special thanks to the two premier event sponsors Southern States and Old South Marketing and Public Relations, LLC, and to the CSEA sponsors Adam Bohler and Co., Ricky's Farm Service, Grovetown Farm and Garden, Happy Valley Stables, Washington Wilkes Venture LLC and Arts Heating and Air. The Horse Fair Committee would like to give a special thanks to the keynote speakers: Bert Gates of Blue Line Ranch in Grovetown, Kyle McMichen of Gemara Farm in Barnesville and Dr. Marty Adams of Southern States.
Thanks to Daniel Bufford of Tignall for being on-site to exhibit his farrier service and to Shelly Smith of Tignall for allowing her pony, John Henry, to be displayed. Stephen King was the lucky winner of a $50 savings bond from Farmers and Merchant's. Thanks also to those who donated raffle items, including Grovetown Farm and Garden, Dave Morris, Joe and Leslie Martin, Jimmy Fisher, Pam Carter, Southern States, Horse Emporium, Happy Valley Stables, Dianne Cox and Paul Smith.
